The desert's heat is merciless, but somehow, Cassandra still thinks she's had worse. Thinking back to near-death bonding experiences with her cousin, she turns around to her best friend Thea Naito and the other strangers, Alison Everly and Hailee Jacobs, that they have found to face this behemoth.

How did Hailee manage to find herself back in this exact predicament again? Like literally, the odds of being here, in a desert, fighting some godsforsaken primordial beast once again. It was uncanny to say the least. Not to mention her company, not that there was anything wrong with the girls by any means but...they seemed like kids.[break][break]

Even that was similar to her past excursions into the wilds. It was almost laughable except for the fact that Hailee found herself severely ill-prepared. Just her luck. It had been over a year since she was last in Hoenn and without even months of being back she was already being thrust into Hoenn's good 'ol oddities.[break][break]

Raijin sat atop Hailee's head trying his best to put on a brave face. Come rain or shine, he was always around whenever she was in a pickle. But they both were aware that he wasn't exactly the best when it came to dire situations such as these. A soft sigh escaped the seasoned Ranger's lips as she gently gave his head a reassuring pat.[break][break]

"Right," she breathed. "Should worst come to worst you guys should prioritize your safety first. I can do my best to buy you all time." That's what she should be doing, after all these kids had families to get back to.

The desert was the one type of biome that Thea had absolutely zero experience with. She was usually the type that liked to wander away whenever she had free time, but for most of part, she has always been in lively places, with a lot of greens and water. A desert was the opposite of that, a huge contrast, one could say. She even avoided bringing all of her Pokémons, deciding to bring Gominha instead, with Navy's words echoing in her mind: 'If you could only grab one Pokémon in a pinch, which one would be?'[break][break]

She felt bad about the others when making this decision, but now that she was suffering from the heat, she actually felt bad for Gominha for bringing her. "Hanging in there?" She asked to the Wigglytuff, and she chirped annoyed, seeming more worried about her fur being attacked by sand than by the heat itself. "... You are sure a tough one..." Thea chuckled, grabbing her shirt's collar and shaking it a few times, trying to refresh herself before peeking at Hailee Jacobs .[break][break]

"As if! We all need to prioritize it. I won't leave you behind to buy time." She smiled a bit, then looking at Cassandra Kubrick .[break][break]

Alison stood in the heat of the desert with a flat expression. Arms crossed over her chest, and hair twice its size and frizzy from the humidity, she side-eyed her companions with uncertainty. What on earth had she got herself into?

It was one thing to go exploring in a desert of all places, but now to be head-to-head with a potentially powerful and ancient Pokémon – with strangers? She would be questioning her decisions after this for many weeks if she got back alive.

If she got back alive.

For now, she just needed to focus on the issue at hand.

At Cassandra’s words, she straightened and gave her Ninetales a quick raise of her eyebrows. A silent question. Are you ready? He ruffled his tails nervously in response.

“You don’t have to ask me twice,” Alison responded, giving Hailee a lazy smile. A light joke to ease the tension, albeit truthful.

Releasing a breath, Alison anticipated the beast’s arrival.

Cass grins at Gominha's annoyance, leaning down to brush some sand out of her hair, "We'll give you another good spa day after this, promise. Sorry to drag you in here." Ill-advised, but that's truly just her middle name, and it's only gotten worse recently.

She nods at Hailee's words, silently in agreement with Alison, but gives Thea's words a more affirmative nod. "We'll manage!" What they'll manage, who knows.

"Ah so it's Dynamax'ed-" Cass murmurs as they face off against the giant Claydol, shielding her face from the sand that it kicks up. "We need to break that barrier-!" she shouts over the sand, taking a step back as Jon hangs around, resilient. "Gunk Shot!" Before going here, he's gotten quite the feast from a belated spring clean-up and a nearby dumpster.

It's not pretty as he grabs some filthy garbage, but he hurls it with force at the Claydol.

The girl's responses were somewhat expected. But regardless of how they felt, Hailee knew it was her job as an seasoned ranger, one who was quite used to this desert phenomenon, to take responsibility and look out for the group. Still, no matter how 'used' to it she was, this shit just never got any easier.[break][break]

Sanguine hues stretched in surprise at the giant Claydol that appeared in front of them. "....Somethings gotta be in the sand at this point." she said as snatched Raijin's pokeball off her belt. That was the only way to explain these colossal creatures she routinely came across here in the desert. "C'mon buddy, let's do our best." she said as she glared at the beast. Her teammate had the right of it, the Claydol seemed to have some protective energy barrier around it.[break][break]

The quicker they disabled that shield the better for them. "Give 'em shock therapy!" she ordered as her emolga charged forward. Electricity crackled and popped off it's body as he made his way closer to the Claydol's barrier. Snuggling up close, Raijin uses NUZZLE against the protected Claydol.[break][break]

Gominha perked up at Cassandra Kubrick's offer. The Wigglytuff loved a good spa time and she was sure Cass would give her exactly what she wanted. A grin tugged on the side of Thea's lips, and she chuckled. "Don't abuse it, Gominha..." She said, and then blinked, frowning at the Dynamaxed Pokémon merging from the sand.[break][break]

Thea braced herself, getting in a combat stance and already guiding Gominha to take the vanguard. "Nice hit, Cass— Gominha! Follow up with the Emolga and help her to pin that big guy down!" She called for her Wigglytuff to teamwork with Hailee Jacobs's Pokémon.[break][break]

The Wigglytuff squeaked, sucking air and growing like a balloon until she was nearly ten times bigger than her usual self before closing her mouth to hold her breath and throw herself toward the barrier to try to hold it and Disable the giant Claydol, attempting to Hinder its options and give an opening for Alison Everly's Ninetales to attack.[break][break]

As the Claydol shifts and rises out from underneath the sand, Alison’s eyes slowly move upwards as it ascends in front of them. Fear, concern and – disgust? – flash across her face as she pouts her lips tightly, contemplating.

Not only should a Claydol never be that size, but she was meant to help fight it?

She began to wonder if it was too late to leave.

“This was such a mistake,” she murmurs to herself, shaking her head in disbelief, “But–“ She shoots her Ninetales a toothy grimace. "–we’re in it now. Might as well try.”

As her companions begin chipping away at the Claydol – Alison chirping in with a encouraging nice! at each successful hit – she notices the opening given by Thea Naito ‘s Wigglytuff and nods her head in acknowledgment.

Throwing her hair back over her shoulders, and releasing an aspirated breath, she points a singular acrylic nail at the dynamaxed Pokemon in front of her.

“Okay Nines, let’s try to get this done quickly. Will-o-wisp – now!

With a light bark, her Ninetales runs at the Claydol, stopping a small distance away before spreading all his tails out behind him. Iridescent balls of blue fire shoot out from his body towards the Pokémon in quick succession, hoping to inflict a searing and lasting burn on the target.

Cass cheers as Jon manages to actually land a solid hit, then turns to Hailee with a slight nod. "I think there's a Power Spot nearby, but something in the sand isn't too wrong either, probably," she comments, thinking back on what little she could find in the news about these events and essentially bosses.

"Alright, let's throw that up- Sorry gang, but uh, let's Belch!" It's her least favourite attack, but it's powerful which counts for now. Jon prepares and eventually spits something enormous as the Claydol.

Their attacks were slowly chipping away at the Claydol's defenses. But it would seem all they managed to do was piss it off. Hailee gritted her teeth. She was forced to choose between possibly enduring or continuing the offensive. After watching everyone else she decided she'd continue the assault.[break][break]

"RAIJIN, SHOCK'EM!" Hailee ordered as her Emolga charged and collected all the electric energy he could muster within him. With a loud cry he released it all in a mighty DISCHARGE upon the Claydol, hoping to slow it down, even if just a little bit.[break][break]
